A CREATIVE BLOG
ART PROJECTS
Have a scroll down this page to see some of the art projects I have worked on in the past few years, as well as having an insight into my sketchbook! This gallery features projects from Tanzania, learning traditional art styles from locals, and with Kinetika, celebrating the Land of the Fanns community project.
SLATE AND STONE MANDALAS
I studied the process of painting onto stones and tested different materials, settling with slate as a base on which I drew mandalas with acrylic artist ink. I was inspired by the artist Maria Mercedes who creates beautiful mandalas on stone, and my late Grandad, a brilliant artist who painted acrylic onto stones alongside his other artwork.
KINETIKA
I volunteered with Kinetika during lockdown to help create beautiful, high-quality silk flags for a community project. We drew out designs, waxed onto the silk and painted over with fabric dye. The project 'Land of the Fanns' collected 100 stories from community members about the local landscape, people and history. Kinetika celebrated the community by transforming the stories into artwork. When locked restrictions eased, we were finally able to work in the studio and even have a final event (outdoors) to display the amazing flags!
ART IN TANZANIA
We painted the walls of the classroom in the local school we were constructing, to provide the children with a creative and vibrant learning space. In the evenings we took painting classes with the locals, studying traditional styles of Tanzanian art.
SKETCHBOOK
Here you will find some personal sketches and paintings of mine, using a variety of materials. There are also some pictures from a painting course I took in Cornwall with my mum. Painting on the side of a cliff in the torrential rain and wind was an experience to remember!
